The 1930s were on the whole a succesful period for the club which saw them add a second FA Cup to their tally and a fifth League Championship title in 1938/9. When football resumed after the war the team struggled to regain their pre war form and spent some years in the Second Division returning to the top flight in 1953/4, where they have remained ever since. Harry Catterick became manager of Everton in 1961 and led the team to great success, winning both FA Cup, League Championship titles and they became the first English club to spend five consecutive years in European competitions.
Everton’s most successful era came in the 1980s, under manager Howard Kendall they won many domestic honours and in 1985 the European Cup Winners Cup. They are the only club to have played over 100 seasons in the top flight of English football. In 1992 Everton became founder members of the Premier League but struggled to find the right manager, the team suffered from inconsistent form and narrowly avoided relegation a number of times. David Moyes was appointed manager in 2002 and has since signed a number of players breaking the clubs transfer fee record on four occasions.
