Everton’s poor start to the season can be heavily attributed to their lack of goals from their strikers. New signing Jermaine Beckford has looked out of his depth in his first taste of Premier League football and after starting the season in the first team, the former Leeds striker has been left on the bench for Everton’s last three games after failing to impress his new manager.
Beckford’s disappointing start to the season has opened the door for Yakubu to reclaim his place in David Moyes’ first 11. The Nigerian missed a large chunk of last season with injury, scoring only five league goals and was reportedly close to a summer move to West Ham. Yakubu has failed to get off the mark this season and will be looking to open his account this upcoming weekend against Birmingham.
After recovering his fitness, Yakubu found himself back in the first team last weekend, as Everton drew with Fulham at Craven Cottage. The apparent 27 year old was guilty of wasting a host a chances as the Toffee’s failed to find a way past Fulham’s Mark Schwarzer.Yakubu came into this campaign on the back of a poor World Cup, resulting in Nigeria failing to qualify from their group stage, after the striker suffered one of the worst misses in the tournaments history, against South Korea.
If Moyes’ men are going to start climbing the table, those looking at football betting and tipping know they are going to need their strikers to start weighing in with some goals. Everton’s fans will be hoping it starts at St Andrews this weekend.
