NFL Draft Betting Odds: Final Football Score In 2011?

This may be our last time to bet on the NFL for awhile.

The NFL Draft’s opening round commences on Thursday, April 28 at 8 p.m. And with the present labor debacle what it is there is a decent chance that the NFL preseason will be truncated, at the very least, and that NFL regular season games could be cancelled. That means that this could be the last opportunity for bettors to build their bankrolls via the NFL.

Barcelona Still Clear Champions League Betting Odds Favourites Ahead Of Man Utd

It has taken a massive effort to knock Barcelona out of the Champions League in the last few years, over the past three years Barcelona have either won the Champions League or gone out to the eventual winners and so far they are looking good to continue that record.

Barcelona face Real Madrid in what could be the most exciting Champions League Semi Final in years and there is no surprise that it is once again Barcelona who are favourites to progress as they are the favourites to win the entire tournament. Barcelona are just even money with most bookies to win the Champions League, the fact that Real Madrid have been drawn against the favourites means they are now only the third most likely winners in the Champions League odds at around 10/3.

Progress in this semi final still won’t guarantee Champions League victory so a bet on either team to qualify for the final will offer a better bet for some punters, Barcelona are just 1/2 to progress in this tie whilst Real Madrid, who secured their place in the Semi Final by beating Tottenham twice, are 15/8 to reach the Champions League Final at Wembley this season.

It looks as though there could be English representation in this year’s Wembley Final, Man Utd who are the only remaining English team in the competition after they beat Chelsea in both legs of their Quarter Final, have been handed a favourable tie against Schalke who have been the surprise package in this year’s competition. Man Utd are now second favourites to win the Champions League and can be backed at 5/2 to win the tournament, Schalke are very unfancied despite their great results against Inter Milan in the Quarter Finals, Schalke can be backed at 14/1 to pull of a majot shock by winning the Champions League.

It is therefore no surprise that Man Utd are major favourites to reach the final, they can be backed at just 2/7 to progress against Schalke and should be a good bet to win both legs of the Semi Final whilst those who aren’t fans of Man Utd this season will get big odds on Schalke reaching the Champions League Final, the Germans are 11/4 to make it through.

Betting Big Games A Losing Play

I have the over/under on the number of minutes I spend watching the national championship game tonight at about 15.

Unlike some whiny national radio bobbleheads I could care less what time the game starts (it’s 9:20 p.m. EST); I’m a night owl. But I have minimal interest in the game mainly because I’m more locked into baseball right now and I will be bouncing between the Yankees-Twins, Mariners-Rangers and Pirates-Cardinals. Add in the fact that I really dislike both Connecticut (I’m a Syracuse fan) and Butler (I think they are a bunch of bitches) and tonight’s title game is about as appealing as hemorrhoids.

I also have less of an interest because I won’t have nay money or any plays down on the Connecticut-Butler game tonight. I know that seems odd that a professional handicapper wouldn’t release a prediction on the

England vs West Indies betting preview- World Cup 2011

England vs West Indies

England face the West Indies in their last game in Group B which is also a must win for Andrew Strauss’ men if they are to harbour any hopes of reaching the quarterfinals. Bet on England vs West Indies after reading our betting preview at Sportsbookie.com.

England slumped to a shock defeat against Bangladesh in their last game. A win against Bangladesh would have sealed their spot in the quarters- a defeat has however left their hopes hanging by a thread. Not they not only need to beat the West Indies, but also require other results, such as the South Africa Bangladesh game, to go their way.

England’s bowling had Bangladesh on the ropes in Chittagong as the latter were 169/8 chasing 225. However some wonderful rearguard action from the Bangladeshi tail stunned England, thus ensuring that there would be no repeat of the win over South Africa.

James Anderson is likely to be axed because of his poor form, paving the way for Chris Tremlett to come in. England are sweating on the fitness of Graeme Swann, who will be a key player for them on a Chepauk wicket that does assist the spinners.

There are also doubts over the fitness of skipper Strauss and in form batsman Jonathan Trott, but both are expected to take the field on Tuesday.

The West Indies are much better placed than England to qualify from the group. Darren Sammy’s side have taken 6 points from a possible eight in their first four games and have the best net run rate in the group. However they do have two tough opponents in the form of England and India to come, but even if results do not go in their favour, their net run rate should see them go through.

Kieron Pollard came to the party against Ireland and the Windies will be hopeful of a good showing from him this time around too.

Verdict:- England must win this, and they should be able to take two points from this fixture.

Ireland have only won once in the tournament- an upset of neighbours England thanks to a fantastic knock from Kevin O’Brien. Unfortunately for the Irish, none of the other batsmen have really managed to capitalise on the starts they have got, resulting in the Irish losing several games from fairly winnable positions.

Against South Africa, the Irish bowlers did well, reducing the Proteas to 117/5. However JP Duminy and Colin Ingram managed to stage a fantastic recovery and helped South Africa reach 272/7. None of the Irish batsmen really got going, and the Proteas handed them a crushing 131 run defeat.

The Netherlands are the only team in Group B not to have won a single game at this World Cup. Against Bangladesh in Chittagong, only Ryan Ten Doeschate and to a lesser extent, Tom Cooper managed to get going, and the team folded up for a little over 150. Bangladesh raced to the target with plenty to spare.

Ireland have won five of their last six games against the Dutch and will be keen to preserve their record as the leading Associate Nation from this World Cup. A win against the Dutch will go a long way in helping them acheiving that statistic.

Verdict:- Ireland to overcome the Netherlands and finish with two wins from their group engagements.

Champions League 2011 Betting Odds See Support For English Clubs After Successful First Leg Ties

It seems the Champions League Second Round first leg games and results were kinder to the English clubs than the two Spanish clubs left in the competition, despite the Spaniards being the favourites in the Champions League 2011 Betting Odds.

Spurs and Arsenal were particularly well backed in the Champions League Odds as they were, and probably still are, the least likely of the English clubs to progress, Spurs hold a massive advantage over AC Milan following their 1-0 win at the San Siro, they are 16/1 to win the Champions League, the same odds as their rivals Arsenal, who also hold a one goal lead over their opponents but they have to go to the Nou Camp to face Barcelona who are still favourites to win the competition at around 2/1 with most bookies.

Just like their Spanish counterparts Barcelona, Real Madrid also failed to record a win in their first leg tie, the champions League Second favourites who are under the guidance of two times Champions League winner Jose Mourinho, drew 1-1 with Lyon and they don’t quite look ready for Champions League glory, they are 9/2 in the outright betting which puts them just ahead of Chelsea, who look certain to progress to the next round after beating FC Copenhagen 2-0.

Man Utd were the only English team not to win their first leg, they are now 8/1 chances to win the Champions League and any kind of win at Old Trafford will guarantee that. The first leg results mean England have closed the gap on Spain in the winning nationality betting, the unbeaten English sides are now 6/4 to be the winning nationality of the Champions League whilst the winless Spain are 10/11. The Italian sides all lost their first legs and they are way behind Germany now, Italy can be backed at 20/1 with Germany at 14/1.

They have had to rely a bit too much on the all-round ability of Afridi and Razzaq. Abdur Rehman, who missed the game against Canada, is fit and practised with the side. It remains to be seen if he makes the side in place of Saeed Ajmal.

World Cup 2011: Australia v Zimbabwe – betting preview

Australia have reached the finals of every World Cup since 1996, winning it on the last three occasions. They begin their quest to win a record fourth consecutive World Cup against lowly Zimbabwe at Ahmedabad. The bookmakers have the Aussies as firm favourites for this tie. Although the Aussies have lost both their warm-up games, they are still very much firm favourites to lift the Cup. Not long ago, they comprehensively demolished England 6-1 in the one-day series following the Ashes. The Cup may well be the last tournament for household names such as Ricky Ponting and Brett Lee. The core of the side is very young and has some promising all-round players in Shane Watson, Steven Smith, John Hastings and finally, Michael Clarke.

The turmoil in Zimbabwe over the last decade had a morbid effect on their cricket. After looking like strong competitors at the turn of the century, their cricket faded into obscurity. As late as 2009, cricket has stabilized. Their squad is led by a young, 24-year all-rounder called Elton Chigumbura. The hard-hitting batsman has an experience of 120 ODIs under his belt and will have to lead Zimbabwe from the front. Brendon Taylor, Charles Coventry and Tatenda Taibu are no mugs with the bat. They also have a very competent spin department – Ray Price, Prosper Utseya and Greame Cremer will be more than handy on Indian pitches.

Match Verdict: Bet365 have made Aussies the clear favourites by with odds of 1/16 on a Aussie win. It’s hard to not see that happening.

England start off their World Cup campaign against Netherlands at Nagpur. While England are expected to make the knock-out stages at the least, Netherlands would do well to win a game in the group. England have been made strong favourites by Bet365. Read our preview and place a bet or two.

Kevin Pietersen has been made the makeshift opened for the World Cup. He will face the new ball along with Andrew Strauss. Eoin Morgan’s enterprise will be sorely missed for the talented southpaw will miss the World Cup with a finger injury. On the bowling front, Tim Bresnan’s calf tear is the biggest concern. He is fighting a race against time to be fit for this game against Holland.

Peter Borren will lead the Dutch outfit this time around, and there are six players playing their first World Cup. Essex and Tasmania star Ryan ten Doeschate and Worcestershire-based opener Alexei Kervezee will be the mainstays in batting. Young wicketkeeper Wesley Baresi, seamers Westdijk and Bradley Kruger have shown a lot of promise.

Match Verdict: Although we are not sure of England’s chances to lift the Cup, it can be safely said that they will overpower Netherlands in their opening game.

The betting shops in city centres debate

Interesting discussion in today's Racing Post about 'plagues' of betting shops in city centres. Councils and residents are getting sick of them, the big bookies love them and can't get enough retail shops.

Why I hear you ask? Racing's share of the gambling pound is ever decreasing, more and more punters are betting online and you rarely see anyone in the betting shops that already exist... except standing around the FOBTs (Fixed Odds Betting Terminals) or glorified slot machines. And that's what brings in the profits for the bookies. Racing, football and any other sport they show in the shops are mere sideshow value to the evil machines.

Every licensed betting shop in the UK can have four FOBTs (little wonder Irish betting shops are struggling in comparison without them), which have much higher prize limits than pub fruit machines. Sources at the biggest High St firms have told me that they consistently make up to £1m per DAY across their network of outlets from these things. No wonder they want to own as many as they can. Local govt regulations were changed in 2005, previously there had to be cause shown for an additional betting shop to be opened. Now it's just open slather.

What city centre really wants to have its streets full of betting shops, pound shops and junk food outlets? Congratulations to Newmarket City Council for rejecting betting shop no.12 in their city centre, but it should never have been allowed to get that far.

An ideal system might be X per 1000 people within a council, with licences then sold off to the highest bidders and some retained for local independents. Do we really need to see three Ladbrokes/Will Hill/Paddy Power/BetFred shops within a one-mile radius? Not even the plague of Starbucks has gotten that bad...

January Transfer Window Betting Odds Suggest Liverpool, Spurs and Man City Could Make Big Moves This Week

There is just a week left in the January Transfer Window and some bookies are taking bets on where several high profiles players will be playing their football next month. It can often be hard to make big signings in January as clubs are more reluctant to let their best players leave mid season but Aston Villa and Man City have already made big signings this month and there could be a few more big transfers to come.

The most certain transfer that could happen this month appears to be Blackpool’s Charlie Adam to Liverpool. He is long odds on to make that move in the next week and if he doesn’t go to Liverpool, the bookies think he will move to Aston Villa or Everton. Either way it seems he will leave Blackpool this month.

Emmanuel Adebayor is massively out of favour at Eastlands and he has been linked with a move away from Man City for some time now. Reports this week suggest he could be on his way to Monaco and the bookies agree, he is odds on to join his former club, Real Madrid see the other option with Jose Mourinho likely to be in for a striker with his star man Gonzalo Higuain out injured.

No transfer window would be complete without plenty of ins and outs at White Hart Lane and it looks as though Spurs could still be making some changes up front. It has been well publicized that they are after a striker and if Andy Carroll moves, Spurs are the favourites to sign the Geordie striker. There could also be some moves the other way – Fulham are now the favourites to sign away striker Robbie Keane whilst Sunderland could look to replace Darren Bent with Roman Pavlyuchenko. They are favourites to sign the Russian if he moves but he looks more likely to remain at Tottenham until the end of the season.

Online Betting Opportunities On The Continent This Weekend

With a full list of fixtures and all the top clubs involved, there’s plenty of great bets to be had across Europe this weekend. This is an attempt to identify the best picks of the lot.

As far as the English Premier League goes, the best pick presents itself on Sunday when Man Utd take on Spurs at White Hart Lane. The current Spurs team have proven they’ve come a long way, frequently beating Chelsea and Arsenal and currently sitting in fourth place and on track to qualify for the Champions League for the second consecutive season.

No matter what team you support, you’ll find good odds since the game is expected to be a close one. Man Utd can be backed to win at 6/4 whilst Spurs at 2/1. The bookies have the draw priced at 5/2 and considering Spurs have only lost once this season on home turf and Man Utd have drawn seven out of their nine matches away from home (and won the other two), this appears to be the best bet.

A very significant match in the German Bundesliga takes place on Friday night when league leaders Dortmund take on third placed Leverkusen. Leverkusen are the favourite, at 7/5, over Dortmund at 11/5. The odds are a little odd considering Dortmund have come out on top of eight of their nine away games and Leverkusen’s home form leaves something to be desired. Dortmund may very well secure another away win and take home the plate.

The La Liga has thrown out a few surprises with both Barcelona and Real Madrid having win after win and sitting at the top of the league. This weekend should be no different for either team as they are both up against bottom five sides. Barcelona takes on Malaga at home and are available at 1/9 whilst real Madrid face very bottom placed Almeria, in Almeria, who are still to get a win on home soil. Madrid are 2/7, at the time of writing, to win the match.

The New Home of Betting Systems?

I promised you some changes this year, dear reader, and they’re afoot already. In fact, this isn’t really a ‘breaking news’ change as such but rather the announcement of something that’s been in the pipeline for eighteen months!

Let me explain…

There are one or two other websites out there that I’ve always been a fan of. And, as someone who’s a bit of a virtual ‘loud mouth’ in our community, I’ve got to know a fair few of the people behind the sites as well in my four and half years online. (Is it really that long?!)

Two of the chaps I really liked and respected were Craig and Paul at OnlineBettingExposed.com. In fact, I had the pleasure of working with Paul on a project back in September 2009. We put our heads together on a project called Horse Racing Experts, which was (and still is) a great resource for people who want to learn more about building their own profitable racing systems.

Paul is a much (much!) better website techie than me, and he did all the ‘heavy lifting’ while I added a lot of the words. To further give him his due, he’s actually a better all-rounder than me too, given that he’s no slouch when it comes to the old prose either.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, we talked about his OnlineBettingExposed.com (OBE) site and I mentioned that I noticed there wasn’t much going on there. He said he and Craig weren’t really doing anything with it – something about it being ‘of its time’ or some such.

Well, as I said, I’d really been impressed by what the guys had done with OBE, so I asked if they’d be interested in selling the site. After a few beers, the deal was done. That was way back in October or November 2009, and it gave me a problem…

I actually had no idea what to do with the site! I was busy with Geegeez (of course), and my Laying System, and HorseRacingExperts, and Horse-Racing.ie had come on stream… and I was helping out a few friends, like Gavin with TrainerTrackStats… and I was coaching my students who were setting off with their own products… and the Geegeez Racing Club… and, naturally, replying to emails and comments and so on. So I was a little pushed for time. Ahem.

South Korea vs Bahrain betting preview

Bahrain can upset the odds in Group C if they upset favourites South Korea in their opening game on Monday at the Asian Cup. Bet on South Korea vs Bahrain at PaddyPower after reading our preview at Sportsbookie.com.
