Real Madrid were thoroughly outclassed by Barcelona. Mesut Ozil had a poor game and was substituted by Jose Mourinho soon after the latter realised he was not able to make an impact on the pitch. Even Cristiano Ronaldo was mostly a peripheral figure and he will be keen to atone for his performance against Valencia.

However there are problems for Madrid. Firstly, their backline will be without defenders Ricardo Carvalho and Sergio Ramos, both of whom are suspended. Karim Benzema had an off day against Barcelona and Mourinho might chose not to field him against Valencia this weekend.

Spanish La Liga – Barcelona blanks Real Madrid in El Clasico

Jose Mourinho’s name has for a while now been associated with success. A quick look into his professional coaching career will do nothing but prove that no matter where he goes, it seems that success obediently follows. So far this season, the talented Portuguese Manager has worked his way into Real Madrid, one of Spain’s and Europe’s most coveted positions in the sporting world. But with his track of success and championships, comes always a very big load of expectations and responsibilities.  Mourinho is known for his charismatic and passionate style. But after thirty minutes of play time in this season’s first Spanish Derby, there was little to be seen from Mourinho.

Yes, it has been a while since Real Madrid won a game against Barcelona. Almost four years now since Real Madrid’s last road victory at the Camp Nou stadium. Sure enough, die-hard madridistas still remember the two goals by Raul and van Nistelroy on Real’s 2-0 win against Barça on October 2006. And yet, since the beginning of the game, it was quite evident that Real Madrid was in for a ride they wouldn’t forget in a very long time. By the time the referee had finished the game, Barcelona had scored 5 goals and had bullied the white team throughout the entire game. Not Benzema or di María or Cristiano Ronaldo had anything to offer against a team so powerful, so well synchronized, so dialed in perfection, that not even money can buy.

Because money can buy a big group of names and a can cut a deal for a big reunion of superstars. But it doesn’t necessarily mean that it can buy you a team worthy of a championship. Just ask the Miami Heat if money is always synonym of success in the professional sports world. To really put things into perspective, you need to consider that Real Madrid’s starting eleven cost 44.8 million dollars a year. That’s more then three times what it costs to bring in Barcelona’s ensemble.

What’s they key for Barcelona’s success? The significant monetary investment that the club has made in its youth academy La Masaia. As a matter of fact, only four of the 14 players that played during this game, that is Dani Alves, Eric Abidal, Seydou Keita and David Villa, did not spent many hours in the youth academy, perfecting the close-passing game that has not only been Barça’s signature style but also the key to its most recent success.

And then there was Xavi Hernandez. The 30-year-old Spaniard has been absolutely brilliant in his performances in the Clasico. He has been razor sharp in 3 of his last four games against Real Madrid. In may of 2009, Xavi had 4 assists in Barça’s 6-2 win at the Santiago Bernabeu. Then, last year, he scored the two goals that gave Barcelona a 2-0 win at Nou Camp. He is a brilliant playmakes that has had no trouble when performing on the international stage. He currently holds the record for most passes completed on a single World Cup at 599 passes.

On the 5-0 win on Monday, Xavi completed 110 passes, the highest number in any game in La Liga so far this season. And yes, he scored the first goal in the crusching of their archrival Real Madrid on Monday. Bottom line: It pays off to invest in the future.

Not much time after it became official that Raul would complete his move to Schalke 04 in the Germany Bundesliga, the talented Spanish striker made a phenomenal goal in a friendly match against Bayern Munchen. There was a hint that the stiker might end up in a English Premiere League team, but after some negotiations the veteran striker seems to have made the decision to finish his career with the team that last season finished 2nd in the most prestigious and demanding German league.

The Schalke had to find a quick replacement on their offensive end before the beginning of the season kicked in. One of their star players, Kevin Kuranyi, left for the Russian Dynamo Moscow before the end of the season. And there is no doubt that with this new addition to the team, not only will the team be able to realign and strengthen its offensive prowess but also bring in a very experienced and talented player that could make a difference in the offensive end.

Raul arrives to the Bundesliga with quite a record from his many years at Real Madrid. Raul scored 323 goals in 741 games for Real Madrid, and 44 goals in 102 games with La Roja, of Spain. He made his debut in the Santiago Bernabeu in 1994 when he was only 14 years old. When he took the decision to move away from Madrid, a team for who he had played for 17 years, it seem only as a natural decision that many teams would want to hire his services.

Rumor has it, that the likes of Tottenham, Newcastle, Liverpool and Manchester United were all looking to bring in the Spaniard to their team. Perhaps now that he is to play in the Bundesliga, one that he described as the wold’s best, Raul can lead the team to as much success as with Madrid. Back in his years with the Real Madrid, he helped achieve many distinct tournaments with the team. Among the most important ones we must mention three Champions League triumphs, and six Spanish La Liga championships.

He has yet to make any confirmations but if the rumors is true, Real Madrid’s decision to hire new Head Coach Jose Mourinho might had been the spark that fired up his decision to leave Real Madrid and try a new challenge and adventure with Schalke 04. In a statement, Raul said that after one telephone conversation with Mourinho, he new that it was time for him to go.

Gutti follows steps and moves to Turkish Beskitas

The talented midfielder Gutti, who spent all of his professional career at the Real Madrid, decided to move on as well. He recently signed a two year contract with the Turkish club Beskitas. Gutti has spent 25 of his 33 years of age playing for Real Madrid. He started in the team’s junior development program when he was only 9 years old.

Of the Real Madrid’s current staff, only Raul has been playing in Madrid’s La Liga team longer then Gutti. It seems that the decision to bring on Mourinho has seriously upset the senior players in the team. We can now only wait and see what the new head coach can offer such a great institution.
