NBA – Jason Kidd takes a two-game break before facing the Playoffs

The Dallas Mavericks relay heavily on their 38 year-old point guard, and considering that Jason Kidd had played all 77 games before taking his well deserved break, it was no surprise that both the Mavs and Kidd were struggling a bit early towards the end of the season. Dallas has gone 9-9 in their last 18 games and after an intensive six game 10-day road trip, Kidd himself realized that it was time to take a break.

The constant traveling and the little rest he has given his body had mesmerized even his shooting from outside the three-point perimeter. And we all know that was his best offensive weapon. His performance suddenly dropped and in march some of his numbers went to career low records.

Jason Kidd had been shooting better than 40 percent in each of the last two seasons with the Dallas Mavericks from beyond the three-point arch, but not so much this season. He currently sits at 34.1 percent after suffering through a bleak March, his worst shooting month of the season.

Kidd was 23-of-88 (26.1 percent) from 3-point range in March and tacked on an 0-of-10 in the two games he’s played in April. So it was certainly a good thing he good some rest. Truth is that the Mavs really need to have him at his best if they want to have a chance to survive either the LA Lakers or the Portland Trailblazers in the postseson. Kidd averaged a season-low 7.1 points a game last month, which dropped his season scoring average to a career-low 7.9 points a game.

Kidd would not rule himself out during the last in three games of the season. The Mavs play at the Houston Rockets on Monday, but rumor has it that if Wednesday’s regular season finale against the New Orleans Hornets is meaningless, it is possible that he could rest during that game as well.

NBA – LeBron James takes a blow against his previous team

Ok, so this is what happened. When in the Summer of 2010 LeBron James took his one 1 hour ESPN nationally televised special to say he was taking his talents from Cleveland to South Beach, he officially became one of the most hated sports figures in the nation. So what’s the reason behind it all? Well, he left his team without an apology, without a proper goodbye to the city the beloved him so dearly, and particularly because he left the Cleveland Cavaliers with much every personal record you could wish for, but without a National Championship.

Few hours later the owner of the Cavs went out and gave some inappropriate and harshly toned comments about his ex-player, and then it sort of became much more personal. He took things into his own hands when the Miami Heat visited the Cavaliers and basically rode them with the same passion James usually leaves only for Kobe Bryant and the Lakers.

But then things kept really getting worse for the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs sans-LeBron have really struggled this season and their 112-57 lost to the LA Lakers was nothing short from an utter embarrassment. Just for the record, that was their 11th consecutive loss of the season.

So right when his ex-team was going through one of its worst moments ever, LeBron James took a blow at them from the distance.  He wrote on his tweeter account:

FRENCH rider Stephane Pasquier won the main title in Mauritius as the country staged its annual International Jockeys' Weekend.

Pasquier, who won the 1,000 Guineas and French equivalent on Special Duty this year, took the Top Stars Championship, accumulating two points more than Robert Burke, who scored 26 points. Frankie Dettori finished third with 21 points.

Strauss ton takes Lions to Perth warm-up win

The men who did the most damage for Australia on Sunday at the Gabba - Clint McKay and Mitchell Starc - may well not be on duty then but England's trio of quicks enjoyed going through their paces in b oth innings at the WACA even if only Stuart Broad was handsomely rewarded.

New Zealand are a standout 7-5 with Sportingbet to record a remarkable win over top-ranked Test team India in Ahmedabad on Monday after Chris Martin created mayhem in the home ranks at the Sardar Patel Stadium on day four.

The Black Caps replied with 459 to the 487 from MS Dhoni's men and all was set for a draw.

But Martin sent back Gautam Gambhir and Rahul Dravid, while Virender Sehwag was run out, and India went to tea at 2-3.

Matters in the middle did not improve much for India after the interval with Sachin Tendulkar and Suresh Raina departing cheaply before Martin ended Dhoni's stubborn resistance.

VVS Laxman and Harbhajan Singh will resume on 82-6and with a lead of 110.

The draw is now 6-4 with Stan James while India are 4-1 with Coral and Totesport to triumph.

South Africa are 8-15 favourites to win their ODI-series decider with Pakistan in Dubai on Monday.

Pakistan, 13-8, squared matters for a second-time on Saturday with a two-wicket win at the International Stadium.

Keeneland: Queen Elizabeth Challenge Cup (Grade 1) 1m1f, turf, 3yo fillies

SIX of the eight fillies taking part in the Queen Elizabeth II Cup have graded-stakes or Group-winning form to their name, making this the hottest race of its type this year in North America.

Jean-Claude Rouget has booked US-based compatriot Julien Leparoux for dual Group 3 winner Zagora, who has form with the best French fillies and must enter calculations on the basis of a comfortable victory over Bikini Babe at Deauville in July.

However, she must overcome a powerful pair of leading ladies from the home team in Evening Jewel and Check The Label, both of whom have a string of big-race wins to their name.

Evening Jewel (Jim Cassidy/Victor Espinoza) has never been worse than second in seven graded-stakes appearances, landing the Grade 1 Ashland Stakes on the Polytrack here in April before being touched off by top filly Blind Luck on the dirt in the Kentucky Oaks.

Switched to turf after that run, she has landed a hat-trick on the west coast, most recently recording a game victory over a good field in the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks, where her victims included a couple of Saturday's rivals.

Here, though,she faces a new shooter in the shape of Check The Label (Graham Motion/Ramon Dominguez), whose six wins have all been achieved on turf.

She is on a five-timer in graded company, having won easily last time from off the pace in the Grade 1 Garden City at Belmont, an admittedly weak-looking contest for the grade.

In a race laden with graded-stakes winners, the other previous Grade 1 scorer is American Oaks victress Harmonious (John Shirreffs/Joel Rosario), a half-length behind Evening Jewel in the Del Mar Oaks, where Perfect Shirl (Roger Attfield/John Velazquez), a Grade 2 winner on the Saratoga turf, was third.

Harmonious' trainer John Shirreffs, best known for the exploits of Zenyatta, seldom crosses the Rockies without good reason.

Snow Top Mountain, second to Check The Label in the Garden City, was awarded the Grade 3 Arlington Oaks on a disqualification.

Also on Saturday

Hollywood Park: Oak Tree Derby (Grade 2) 1m1f, turf, 3yo (Sun 12.30am BST)

NOT one of the eight runners has a graded-stakes victory to their name, but Make Music For Me (Alexis Barba/Brice Blanc) was a closing fourth in the Kentucky Derby and has won once on grass. On the downside, he hasn't run since finishing down the pan in the Belmont in early June.

Kid Edward (Jim Cassidy/David Flores) also closed well when second to the impressive Sidney's Candy over shorter at Del Mar, while former John Best-trained Jairzihno (Simon Callaghan/Patrick Valenzuela) chased home Twirling Candy in the Del Mar Derby.

Three-time winner Blue Panis (Fabrice Chappel/Joe Talamo), having his last run for his French trainer before continuing his career in the US, has scored twice in Listed grade at home.
