Strauss ton takes Lions to Perth warm-up win

By Max Oram 7:08PM 7 NOV 2010 ENGLAND captain Andrew Strauss steered his side to a six-wicket warm-up win over Western Australia in Perth on Sunday with 120 not out.

But the Three Lions are still 2-1 to win a first Ashes series down under since 1986-87 because Australia stopped their sequence of international defeats in all formats at seven in Brisbane with an eight-wicket dead rubber ODI win over Sri Lanka.

Ricky Ponting's charges remain 10-11 favourites with Paddy Powerand Stan James to win the Test series that begins in Brisbane on November 25 but Blue Square and 888sport have clipped their offering to 5-6.

Stan James have though taken a stance and shoved Australia out to 11-10 to triumph in the first Test at the Gabba.

The Baggy Greens have won the last six Queensland five-dayers and not lost there since 1988 when Malcolm Marshall, Courtney Walsh and Curtly Ambrose ran amok for West Indies.

The men who did the most damage for Australia on Sunday at the Gabba - Clint McKay and Mitchell Starc - may well not be on duty then but England's trio of quicks enjoyed going through their paces in b oth innings at the WACA even if only Stuart Broad was handsomely rewarded.

New Zealand are a standout 7-5 with Sportingbet to record a remarkable win over top-ranked Test team India in Ahmedabad on Monday after Chris Martin created mayhem in the home ranks at the Sardar Patel Stadium on day four.

The Black Caps replied with 459 to the 487 from MS Dhoni's men and all was set for a draw.

But Martin sent back Gautam Gambhir and Rahul Dravid, while Virender Sehwag was run out, and India went to tea at 2-3.

Matters in the middle did not improve much for India after the interval with Sachin Tendulkar and Suresh Raina departing cheaply before Martin ended Dhoni's stubborn resistance.

VVS Laxman and Harbhajan Singh will resume on 82-6and with a lead of 110.

The draw is now 6-4 with Stan James while India are 4-1 with Coral and Totesport to triumph.

South Africa are 8-15 favourites to win their ODI-series decider with Pakistan in Dubai on Monday.

Pakistan, 13-8, squared matters for a second-time on Saturday with a two-wicket win at the International Stadium.
