Arsenal emerged 3-0 winners over Birmingham City in their weekend fixture and in the process became only the second league team to come away with St.Andrews’ with a win this season. The dominating manner of the win would have pleased Arsene Wenger especially after a horrendous defensive mistake saw them draw 2-2 at Wigan Athletic in the game before.
Midfielder Abou Diaby, defenders Thomas Vermaelen and Kieran Gibbs and goalkeeper Manuel Almunia remain sidelined through injury for Arsenal.

Manchester City edged out Blackpool last weekend to keep pace with local rivals Manchester United at the top of the table. However City have played one game more than Arsenal and two more than United going into the midweek round of fixtures.
City could afford a penalty miss from Carlos Tevez as they beat Blackpool 1-0. Mario Balotelli, who was rested against Blackpool after his h’trick against Aston Villa, will miss this fixture because of a knee injury. The same goes for playmaker David Silva, who has been in good nick in the last few games.
