The England striker was pushed into a more central position last year and reaped the rewards. He bagged 30 goals and led United’s title charge for much of the year, until an ankle injury sustained in the Champions League against Bayern Munich stalled his and United’s progress.

Sir Alex Ferguson responded by dropping him to the bench, perhaps in the hope it will inspire Rooney to regain his best form.
And United certainly need him to, especially in Europe. United have began their 2010/11 Champions League campaign poorly with a 0-0 draw with Rangers in a result that was a real shock to people who bet on Champions League games.
A spirited 1-0 in Valencia got things back on track but if they are to go far in this season’s competition, the Champions League predictions show they will need Rooney to fire on all cylinders.
