Football – Andrew Luck will return for another year in Stanford
Rumor has it that had Andrew Luck would end up being the No.1 pick in the NFL draft had he decided to step away from Stanford and take a go at the Pros. The second part of the rumor, and perhaps the part which should interest you a bit more, is that the Carolina Panthers, who own the No.1 pick in the draft, had stated earlier this week that they would be very interested in hiring Luck if he decided to drop school.
The official announcement states that Luck’s decision to stay at Stanford is strictly academic. According to the press release, the talented quarterback said the he was committed to finishing his degree in architectural design at Stanford University. Something he expects to have had accomplished by the spring quarter of 2012. Just in time for next year’s draft.
Still, one can help but to wonder if Luck just simply didn’t want to end up being stuck with the Panthers for his rookie year. On the other hand, his announcement could also change the mindset of head coach Jim Harbaugh and the whole uncertainty that has risen in regards to his stay or his very possible departure from Stanford. Just like with his starting quarterback Harbaugh has been getting distinct proposal for making the big jump into the pros.
Still, Stanford could work its way up into yet another impressive year. Luck has guided Stanford through a 12-1 season, possibly finishing in the BCS top 5 at the end of the season. That would be the first time this happens since the 1940’s. Andrew Luck finished the season with 3,338 passing yards and 32 touchdown-passes completing over 71% of his passes while rushing for 513 yards. Sure, he was second to Cam Newton in the fight for the Heisman Trophy, but the 50 million dollar contract for the No.1 pick in the draft was going to Luck, not to the star of the Auburn Tigers.

Is possible Becks return a good move?
I can’t say I was surprised that, just days after suggesting he wouldn’t dip into the January transfer market, Harry Redknapp declared an interesting in David Beckham.
Those following the Livescores note that a possible three-month loan deal ahead of the MLS season in March has been proposed and is currently in the hands of Spurs administrators.
If the deal goes ahead Beckham could make his Premier League Spurs debut against, who else, but Man United.
Beckham has repeatedly rejected moves back to England in the recent past, citing loyalty to his former employers United and fear of injury after a ruptured achilles while playing for AC Milan last season put pay to his World Cup hopes.
But it appears his desire to play for England once more is still a powerful one and rumoured suggestions by Fabio Capello for Beckham to prove his fitness may have persuaded the 35-year-old to have one last shot in England.
The move will no doubt create huge publicity

The Grade 1 BHP Insurance Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown on January 23 has also been discussed, but trainer Philip Fenton warns it would be “ambitious for a first run of the season”.
Fenton said: “He’s grand and I’m happy with him so far. The weather would have held him up anyway as, while we have been able to keep them all ticking over, I would have liked to have done a little bit more with him if he was to be running sooner.“He’s on track, but where he runs will depend on how ready he is when these races come up. We’ll step up his work in the next few weeks."Dunguib, a 20-1 shot for the Stanjames.com Champion Hurdle with the sponsor, won the 2009 Weatherbys Champion Bumper and began his hurdling career in October last year, winning his first four outings before contesting the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. In finishing third behind Menorah in the Supreme, Dunguib suffered defeat for the first time over hurdles. He was then beaten again on his final start last season when sixth to Hurricane Fly in the Rabobank Champion Hurdle at Punchestown. FacebookDeliciousDiggStumbleUpon Tags: Dunguib
