US Masters 2011 Odds

It all tee’s off this Thursday, April 7th 2011 in Augusta Georgia where the world’s best golfers will battle it out over four days to earn the right to slip their arms into the most coveted green jacket in the world.

All the big names will be out in force – Tiger Woods, Lee Westwood, Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Rory Mcilroy to name but a few. McIlroy Masters Favourite

Rory McIlroy has proved his critics so very wrong and gone into the US Masters 2011 with a bang, taking the lead after the opening round on Thursday 7th April. The 21-year old who hails from Northern Ireland played in his first professional European Tour event as a 16-year-old in 2005 at The Forest of Arden. And the teen prodigy went on to turn professional at just 17.

On the opening day in Augusta, he surged clear of the field on day one after shooting a seven-under-par 65 and was later joined by Alvaro Quiros at the top of the leaderboard, putting him straight to top of the bookies favourites list.

Despite such a positive start, there are fears that history may repeat itself. McIlroy went two strokes better when taking the lead of the Open at St. Andrews last July but then slumped to a second-round 80 when the wind worsened.

However, speaking after his flawless round on Thursday, McIlroy said he now feels better prepared to deal with adversity. “At the time, it was very disappointing,” he said of his second-round collapse at St. Andrews. “But looking back, it was probably very valuable in my progression as a golfer. I hope it will help me,” he said. “I have that experience to draw on, especially being in a similar position to last year at St. Andrews.”

“I feel like I’m better prepared to tee off in the second round of a major with the lead.”

ATP Tennis -Andy Murray defeats Roger Federer in Shanghai Masters

Things are not looking too well for the great Roger Federer. And his recent debacle at the Shanghai seems to be the latest prove. Andy Murray went on to defeat the Federer Express in straight sets this Sunday. Murray who has been quite effective against a player that gives such a hassle to most every other player in the professional circuit, managed to defeat Federer by 6-3, 6-2.

Andy Murray not only won the tournament without dropping a set, but he also broke Federer’s serve four times and managed to fight back six break points while outperforming Federer from the serve, with six aces against Federer’s three. In their personal record, Murray has now won 8 of their 13 meetings, making him quite efficient against the player who for so many weeks dominated the ATP rankings.

And truth be said, it is quite uncertain what happened with Federer during the final match. Don’t get us wrong here, Murray played an amazing match and he deserved to win the tournament. But it is hard to understand how his performance dropped the way it did because, let’s face it, the Federer that played and defeated Robin Soderling in the quarterfinals and Novak Djokovic in the semifinals was not the same Federer who went to on to play the final match.

Murray has had somewhat of an irregular season filled with ups and downs. First, he defeated Federer in August, where he won his first tournament of the year. But then he failed to make it pass the third round of the following four tournaments, including his early exit in the third round of the US Open at Flushing Meadows.
