Uruguay were easily expected to see off Peru in their group opener but they could only manage a 1-1 draw. Their much vaunted strike force of Cavani, Forlan and Suarez failed to click. Forlan missed a sitter to put Uruguay 2-1 up against Peru and hasn’t quite looked the player who orchestrated Uruguay’s third place finish at the 2010 World Cup.

Coach Oscar Tabarez has already said that he will ring in the changes against Chile. Young Nacional starlet Sebastian Coates will come in for Mauricio Victorino in defence while attacking Nicolas Lodeiro is set to be sacrificed for Porto’s Alvaro Pereira, who had to make do with a spot on the bench against Peru. Diego Godin missed the first game through fever and is likely to miss out against the Chileans too.

Chile produced an excellent comeback win against a young Mexican side in their group opener. Trailing 1-0 against El Tri with less than half an hour to go, Chile hit back through Esteban Paredes and Arturo Vidal to grab a 2-1 win and go top of the table.

However Matias Fernandez suffered an injury and is likely to miss this game along with Jorge Valdivia.
