Adebayor eyes exit

It’s looking more and more likely that Emmanuel Adebayor could be heading out of Eastlands when the January transfer window opens. The striker has found his chances in the Manchester City first team limited this season and with the arrival of Mario Balotelli seems to have pushed the Togo man further down pecking order.

Adebayor’s frustrations were apparent this weekend as City suffered a surprise 2-1 loss to Wolves. Despite scoring the match’s opening goal through a penalty, Adebayor was taken off with 15 minutes left, this after nearly coming to blows with team-mate Vincent Kompany, in which the two had to be separated by Yaya Toure. While City played exceptionally poorly, Wolves deserved their win and were the hungrier side.

Despite coming across as a thoroughly charming sort of chap, during his punditry stint for the BBC during the World Cup, Adebayor has a history of fallings out with team-mates during his career. This latest incident was just one of a number of recent rumblings of discontent in the City camp and until Roberto Mancini can flush out the disharmony in the squad, then this squad won’t be able to truly challenge the big boys for the title.

It’s obvious to those looking at the soccer betting odds that Adebayor won’t settle for a bit part role at City and when Mancini has a fully fit squad the striker will find his chances limited. A move to Spain has been mooted, with Real Madrid linked as a possible destination. That could open up the possibility of Karim Benzema moving to Manchester as part of any deal, also possibly freeing up funds, if that’s even an issue, for a much expected move for Liverpool’s Fernando Torres.
