Nobody will argue that Nigel Pearson’s departure from the Walkers Stadium rocked Leicester phenomenally and most of their fans are probably still wishing he’d stayed put. Things didn’t work out for his successor Paulo Sousa and after just nine games, it was decided that Sousa should be replaced. With the highly ambitious Milan Mandaric at the helm as chairman there were huge rumours about who Sousa’s replacement would be and in the end former England manager Sven was put in charge. Eriksson certainly has a tricky task on his hands with the club sat in 22nd position with just eight points after the opening ten games. However, having now been in the job for over a week, Eriksson has started work behind the scenes and has already brought in defensive duo Curtis Davies and Kyle Naughton. With the Foxes already having the worst defensive record in the division, those loan signings certainly seem like a step in the right direction.
Despite Pearson’s success at Leicester, he seems to be struggling more at Hull. They may have only come down into this division, but the Tigers are struggling to get to grips with life in the Championship and they currently occupy 16th position. Recent form can only be described as boring for the club who seem completely opposed to goals at both ends of the field. Pearson’s men have scored just twice in their last four, but at the same time they’ve also kept three clean sheets out of those games. The most worrying statistic will be the dreadful number of goals they’ve scored in total this term, with the Tigers hitting the target just seven times so far.
As for team news, Sven-Goran Eriksson is set to hand debuts to both his new signings as Curtis Davies and Kyle Naughton go straight into the squad for this one. On the negative side, Eriksson will be without the services of Danny N’Guessan who is still struggling with an ankle injury. There’s little to report for the visitors on the other hand who just have the one problem. Midfielder Jimmy Bullard is a serious doubt with a knee injury and the former Fulham man will be given until the last moment to prove his fitness.
In terms of a prediction, we expect nothing but a home win here. With a new manager at the helm Leicester will be under pressure to perform and with Hull’s season being so inconsistent so far, we’ll predict a 3-1 victory for the Foxes.
