Birmingham boss Alex McLeish claims he will soon find the perfect striking combination to propel his side up the Premier League table.
Much was expected of the Blues this season after a strong performance last campaign and the millions spent during the summer. However, things have not gone to plan and Birmingham have won only one of their opening seven matches.
Goals have been a problem for McLeish’s side so far this season with the side only finding the back of the net on seven occasions. The Scot has used various combinations of Cameron Jerome, Nikola Zigic, James McFadden and Matt Derbyshire so far this season as he looks for the perfect double act.
Birmingham were booed off the field after their defeat to Everton last weekend, which was their first loss at St Andrews in 13 months. That result left the Blues only one point above the Premier League relegation places and they travel to the Emirates to face Arsenal in their next game, a match the Premier League betting predictions suggest will go the home side’s way.
McLeish told the Birmingham Mail he can “understand” why fans are “frustrated” but they need to “trust him” as he believes his squad is “capable” of winning games and climbing the Premier League table.
“We are trying to find the right solutions, trying to find the right balance,” he said.
“We have forwards still striving to find their feet and, as yet, I’ve not found the most potent combination, despite trying them all.”
Recently, new signing Alexander Hleb said that he believed Birmingham have enough class in their squad to avoid a relegation battle. Anyone who decides to bet on Premier League games should remember this.
He claims every player needs to give a “little bit more” if they wish to appease the fans’ frustration and steadily climb up the Premier League table.
