Post delivers the verdict

1:34PM 14 JUL 2010 HERE at RPSPORT we are a little reluctant to blow our own trumpet. Especially when we can get someone else to do it for us.

So a big thank-you to The Independent on Sunday for pointing out to their readers the success of ourtipsters and their predictions in our 96-page World Cup pullout, published in that now seemingly distant week of the start of the tournament.

The paper’s Matthew Bell investigated which national paper had come up with the most accurate predictions at the start of the World Cup under the headline ‘Who triumphed in the Pundits’ World Cup?’

“So, it’s Holland versus Spain in the final. Who could haveseen that?” asked Bell. “Well, that dark horse the Racing Post did actually.”

And he added: “The Racing Post’s 96-page supplement had the most accurate predictions of any paper.

“Mark Langdon picked Holland and Spain, confidently writing off the chances of England, Italy, Portugal, France and Germany. Kevin Pullein, Dan Childs and Alan McInally picked Holland, while James Milton plumped for Spain.”

Oh stop it, Matthew, you’re making us blush.

Modesty forbids us also pointing out that if you go back to July 2006, after the World Cup final in Germany, RPSPORT carried a feature by Steve Davies about which teams looked good prospects for 2010 under the headline: “Spain youth could develop but Italy may come crashing down.”
