After surprising everybody with a ninth place finish last season, Birmingham will be looking to push on into the European places this campaign. Manager Alex McLeish has given his side every chance of achieving their goal by making three quality signings on transfer deadline day. Midfielder Alexander Hleb, defender Martin Jiranek and winger Jean Beausejour have all sealed moves to St Andrews in what was a busy day for McLeish.

Czech defender Jiranek has left Spartak Moscow, where he was club captain, to join the Blues on a one year deal. The centre back has plenty of experience and will join a team who already have one of the tightest defences in the Premier League. Some football betting and tipping experts the side could qualify for Europe this year.

Chile’s World Cup star Beausejour has joined from Mexican side Club America, for a fee believed to be around
