and Pakistan had been warned about dodgy connections..

More and more evidence is coming to light in the wake of the NotW scandal. GamblerFalls' blog points out that Shahid Afridi warned team management of the characters involved getting too close to the team. And naturally, what did team management do? Put their heads in the sand and ignore it....

The evidence is pretty damning now. I'd be really pissed off if I was boss of a ground about to host a T20 or an ODI in the next couple of weeks. Ticket sales are going to be screwed unless they are already sold. All that effort going into securing an international match, hoping for it to fill the coffers and keep the business ticking over - all gone now.Posted byScott Fergusonat21:32

so what now for cricket?

If the Pakistan spot-fixing allegations prove to be true, then there should be massive implications for the game worldwide. Players will no doubt argue it was supposed to be innocent and not affecting the result of the match, which as alluded to here is complete rubbish. The ICC have a full-txime anti-corruption unit who take particular interest in matches involving India or Pakistan, simply because of their closeness to the underground betting markets. Part of the programme is lecturing every player about the dangers of gambling and being involved with shady parties - not just match-fixing but any form of betting on a match, including spot-fixing.

The spot-fixing events in the Lord's Test are alleged to have been a precursor to bigger fixes, most likely a thrown game in the ODIs. The no-balls were used to show the 'fixer' had the players in his pocket and they were able to be bought.

This is where it will get political, as can only happen with the ICC. The traditional nations will scream outrage and want the players banned for life. The Asian nations will work together and only want to hand down pitifully meagre penalties, so as not to lose power (i.e. votes) at the board table.

If as alleged, the captain Salman Butt is involved, there is a genuine case for kicking Pakistan out of international cricket. I believe that would make it three Pakistan captains caught for their involvement in illegal gambling, and that's not including the many others who have been accused, with or without any more evidence than hearsay. For a brand new captain to be involved in it shows the whole system is corrupt.

Pakistan haven't done themselves any favours in this whole saga. Their national cricket administration system is a farce, the world has been prepared to give them some leniency as they play without a home ground as a result of terrorist attacks, and even more so with the recent floods affecting an area bigger than England. But any sympathy they have been shown will now disappear faster than a politician's pre-election pledge...

One question as more evidence comes to light and people are being arrested for their involvement. How can Scotland Yard charge someone with 'conspiracy to defraud bookmakers' when none of the bets affected (so far) have involved legal bookmakers, only black market ones in India? Surely there is no legal protection for illegal entities?Posted byScott Fergusonat09:43

Pakistan cricket betting scandal - genuine or faked?

News breaking tonight of another betting scandal involving the Pakistan cricket team and the News of the World, an English tabloid newspaper. A middle-man is alleged to have arranged no-balls at specific times in the England first innings in the current Test match at Lord's, in return for substantial amounts of money. The no-balls in question were not even close, at least a foot over, which is curious.

But is it as clear-cut as it seems? For me, it sounds too perfect. Pakistan are easy targets - they don't have a great reputation for integrity, and linking it to illegal bookmakers on the sub-continent is the perfect modus operandi as they have no licence or audit trail. People say that millions get bet on this stuff, despite all sorts of previous allegations about these markets, but there's nowhere to prove it is true or not. Was the evidence shown to anyone before the event, or did it only emerge conveniently after it?

I just find it very hard to trust anything that comes out of the News of the World, and destroying the reputation of one outstanding young bowler to increase flagging newspaper sales I do not find beyond them. Their modus operandi of catching dodgy characters (Sven-Goran Eriksson, John Higgins etc) isn't exactly a secret.

There may be more evidence to show for it and back the allegations up. How bad were the other no-balls from Amir and Asif? Is there any proof that this meeting with the fixer was actually before the events in question took place? There doesn't seem to be any footage of the players involved in this, unlike the Higgins snooker case.

IF the story is genuine, then fair play to the NotW for flushing it out.... I just think it's a bit too well put together...

Match-fixer pockets £150k as he rigs England Test at Lord's

THE News of the World has smashed a multi-million pound cricket match-fixing ring which RIGGED the current Lord's Test between England and Pakistan.

In the most sensational sporting scandal ever, bowlers Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif delivered THREE blatant no-balls to order.

Their London-based fixer Mazhar Majeed, who let us in on the betting scam for £150,000, crowed "this is no coincidence" before the bent duo made duff deliveries at PRECISELY the moments promised to our reporter. Posted byScott Fergusonat22:43

NFL – Rookie Sam Bradford key in Rams win over Patriots

Sam Bradford knows well how to handle the pressure. At least he knows very well how to handle himself in the field when the pressure is on. Especially for a guy who knows that his team has just made a 50 million-dollar inversion on him. Bradford has just made his official debut with the Saint Louis Rams and he past the test with flying colors no other then against the New England Patriots in the Ram’s 35-36 victory in their preseason game.

The Oklahoma University graduate managed to complete 15 of 22 for 189 yards in his first game as a starter. He completed 2 touchdown passes. He made some good plays along the game. And he even managed to manage some intelligent throwaways. The thing is that he not only completed easy passes, he even went in an took some risks, and they paid off.

NCAA success does not guarantee much when it comes to the pros. But on a personal note I have to confess that it came as something of a surprise what happen to both Sam Bradford and Colt McCoy once they made it to the pros. I might not be an expert, but back in the days when they were in college, playing for the best two teams in the Big 12, it was hard, very hard for me to believe that once they made it into the pros, Bradford, coming from quite a successful career with the sooners was going to be worth 10 times, that’s right, 10!, more then his counterpart over at the Longhorns.

Sure, it happens every year. For every Peyton Manning and Carson Palmer (who made it into the NFL as the No.1 draft) there are plenty of Tim Couch and JaMarcus Russell’s to prove along that taking on the No. 1 draft will mean a multimillion dollar bet that can either get you a Vince Lombardi Trophy or a series of financial mishaps from which it is very hard to recover. Uh-um: anyone said Cleveland Browns and the Raiders?

The regular season begins on September 9th with the Minnesota Vikings making a visit to the defending Champions the New Orleans Saints. As of press time, the Saints are a -4

Sheffield United v Preston Preview

It wasn’t too long ago that both of these sides were regularly challenging for the top six although now it appears as though expectations have lowered slightly. Sheffield United made the rash decision to sack Kevin Blackwell just two league games into the season and successor Gary Speed is now charged with lifting the Blades from the foot of the table and into the top half. Similarly, Preston haven’t enjoyed the best of starts and Darren Ferguson will be looking to improve his sides points tally of three.

This campaign was always going to be a tough one for Sheffield United considering their parachute payments have now stopped. It meant that the club had to be a lot more stringent in the transfer market and that was perhaps something that Kevin Blackwell struggled to deal with. He was given his marching orders just two games into the season and replacing him was former Wales midfielder Gary Speed. Speed’s first task was arguably the toughest he’ll face all season, with the Blades travelling to the Riverside Stadium to take on Middlesbrough. While they ended up losing that one 1-0, they still put up a good account of themselves and Speed will have been encouraged by the signs of his new team.

Darren Ferguson has attempted something of a rebuilding job with his Preston side and with that, you can forgive the Lilywhites for taking time to gel. Having lost their first two league games, one of which was a 4-0 defeat to Swansea, things have improved in recent weeks and Ferguson’s men managed to see off Portsmouth in their last outing. However, one thing that will be bothering the Deepdale supremo is the club’s dreadful record on the road. Preston have not won in ten away games in a record stretching back to last season and this is something that must change if the club are going to improve.

Sheffield United’s team news focuses on their defence where Gary Speed could hand out two debuts. Stephen Jordan joined the club a few weeks ago but has only now recovered from a calf strain and could be given a start. Elsewhere, after signing for the club at the start of the week fellow defender Jean Calve may also be given a starting place. Similarly, the visitors’ team news is based on defenders. Despite being taken off midway through their game against Bradford, Sean St Ledger should feature in this one. However, former Leicester man Wayne Brown is doubtful due to a calf problem.

In terms of a prediction, we think Sheffield United are clear favourites and will net a comfortable victory here. Preston’s away form is dismal and with a new manager watching, we think the Blades will impress. 2-0, home win.

NFL- The Cleveland Brown could cut Colt McCoy

by Stephen Lars on Aug.27, 2010, under Football

The name is got to ring a bell. Particularly if you enjoy betting on the NCAA Football, and either like or hate the Texas Longhorns. Colt McCoy is among the most consecrated college quarterbacks in the NCAA history. Not only has he received most every distinction possible, he is the winningest quarterback in college. Still, there is a chance he might just be one more of the many summer camp casualties. He might not make the cut, and that is just sad. It would certainly sign a powerful downfall from his years in college.

Many fans and sports reporter alike had said that McCoy lacked the physical build and the technique required to play with the big boys in the NFL. It would seem as if their predictions are right. Some, Frank Cooney among them, criticized his style. Colt McCoy made most of his completions firing mostly from a shotgun. He also has a low release points and if memory doesn’t fail us, he really was not capable of throwing a good, powerful, fastball. And those seem to be key factors in the NFL.

If you take into consideration that not only did he not finish his season strong, but suffered an elbow injury in his last game, then it becomes a bit more evident why the Cleveland Browns might be waiting to really bring him in. Still, one can’t help to be a bit shocked to know that McCoy might get cut on his first season as a pro.

It seems that the coaching staff in Cleveland has been more impressed with the performance of veteran newcomers like Seneca Wallace and Jake Delhomme. Success in college is no guarantee for success among the pros. But we are talking about a player that managed to guide the Longhorns to an NCAA record 45 wins, and held a season long best average for completions back in 2008.

Before his last game injury, McCoy was expected to enter the draft among the top 10 picks. Ups and downs, and somewhat of a change of fate, had him enter the NFL Draft in the third round. Sure, has has sign a $5 million 4-year contract with the Browns. But he might not make the cut, and not be part of the Cleveland Brows 53-man rooster.

Portsmouth v Cardiff Preview

While Portsmouth have endured a terrible start to the season, fans of the Fratton Park outfit will just be relieved they have a club to support. Then again, Cardiff could view things the same and the Bluebirds have tolerated a whole summer of winding up orders from the High Court. However, it now looks as though those worries are over for the Welsh outfit and they can finally pay full attention to their on the field antics. While it appears as though everything is coming into place for the Bluebirds, the same cannot be said for Portsmouth who are still suffering from dire financial problems and are also struggling on the pitch.

Portsmouth’s financial problems meant the club were on the edge of going bankrupt and because of that, there’s no doubting that footballing matters took a back seat. While the club did take the initiative and appoint Steve Cotterill as manager, financial constraints meant there was little activity in the transfer market and the loan signings of Carl Dickinson and Ibrahima Sonko are the only deals that have materialized. With plenty of players leaving in the summer it means Pompey are down to bare bones and this has shown in their results. So far Cotterill’s men have picked up just the one point after defeats to Coventry and Preston and a 1-1 draw against Reading. This leaves the Fratton Park outfit in the drop zone and while it is early on in the campaign, Cotterill will know the importance of dragging them away from it as quickly as possible.

Cardiff on the other hand are on the up and after a summer of misery, Bluebirds supporters cannot believe their luck at the moment. Since their transfer embargo was lifted a couple of weeks ago, Dave Jones has certainly been busy in the transfer market and the loan signing of Craig Bellamy was the icing on the cake. Bellamy certainly made an impression on his debut as well, providing assists as well as scoring a belter of his own as Cardiff romped to a 4-0 victory. Jones’ men now have seven points to their name and that tally has put them into 2nd position. With the talent at his disposal now, the Bluebirds have got to be classed as one of the favourites for promotion.

As for team news, Portsmouth will hand late fitness tests to David Nugent and John Utaka who are struggling with ankle and hamstring problems respectively. Cardiff’s team news is a little more extensive on the other hand and the Bluebirds have been hit with the news that Michael Chopra could miss the next ten weeks through injury. Other players who are doubtful for this one are Darcy Blake and Kevin McNaughton, although Dave Jones will be hopeful of handing a debut to new loan signing Andy Keogh.

Cardiff are well and truly on the up and we’re going to predict a comfortable victory for Dave Jones’ men in this one. Pompey have serious problems and with Cardiff on such a high, we expect a 2-0 victory for the visitors.

Barnsley v Middlesbrough Preview

There couldn’t be a bigger difference between these two sides, with Barnsley operating on one of the smallest budgets in the division while recently relegated Middlesbrough have splashed out millions in the transfer market this summer. Unsurprisingly, the Tykes have been tipped as relegation favourites by the bookies while Boro are clear favourites for the title. However, after three league games both clubs are on four points and Barnsley will feel as though they have an excellent chance to stifle the visitor’s charge for promotion.

A 4-0 drubbing on the opening day of the season made a few Barnsley fans a little worried, especially since that also meant the Tykes had gone eleven games without a win on run stretching back to last season. However, a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace followed that and following a 3-3 draw at Bristol City, it would be fair to say that the Oakwell faithful are a little more optimistic now. In fact, many were disappointed only to notch a point at Ashton Gate last week after throwing away a 2-0 and a 3-2 lead. Still, four points from a tough opening schedule will have pleased Mark Robins and his aim now will be to try and maintain his sides mid-table placing.

Middlesbrough on the other hand endured a start that to the season that nobody quite predicted. Despite vast investment through the summer, Boro were soundly beaten on the opening day of the season as Ipswich left the Riverside Stadium with a 3-1 win to their name. Since then things have slowly improved following a goalless draw against Leicester and then a 1-0 victory over Sheffield United. That leaves Boro on four points and in 10th position and while only three games have passed, manager Gordon Strachan will know that his new-look side must start to gel in order to match pre-season expectations.

As for team news, Mark Robins could have a few problems in this one as he sweats on the fitness of Adam Hammill, Luke Potter and Liam Dickinson. On the plus side however, summer signing Jim O’Brien is recovering well from a thigh injury that has prevented him from making his debut. Middlesbrough on the other hand have a host of problems and Gordon Strachan will have plenty of reshuffling to do. Seb Hines, Tony McMahon, Jonathon Franks, Gary O’Neil, Willo Flood, Rhys Williams, Nick Bailey and Kevin Thomson are all set to miss out giving Boro some serious injury concerns.

Barring the opening day, Barnsley have enjoyed a reasonable start to the season and finally found some goals following last week’s 3-3 result against Bristol City. Middlesbrough on the other hand still appear to be finding their feet and with that, we’re going to predict an exciting 2-2 draw in this one.

Scunthorpe v Crystal Palace Preview

These are two sides who were tipped to struggle by the bookies and judging by the start both have had, those predictions seem spot on at the moment. With such a small budget, Scunthorpe are always viewed as relegation candidates while Crystal Palace’s off the field problems means that they probably won’t have the easiest season either. With that, both sides will be viewing this as a must win game.

Scunthorpe lost several key players in the summer and due to that, many saw them as certainties for relegation. However, the Iron surprised everyone with a 2-1 opening day victory over Reading and that gave everyone at the club confidence that this might not be the season of disaster that everyone else is predicting. However, since then things haven’t been quite as successful and the club have lost both of their other league games. However, on the plus side, Nigel Adkins’ men appear to have launched something of a cup run and a 4-2 victory over Sheffield Wednesday a few days ago will have done nothing but good for their confidence. What’s more, new signing Chris Dagnall managed to bag two in that game and with Dagnall seemingly being the direct replacement for the recently departed Gary Hooper, Adkins will be hoping that the former Rochdale man can follow in Hooper’s footsteps.

It’s certainly been a strange old summer for Crystal Palace and while at one point they were faced with the threat of extinction, now they have turned to signing players who have played right at the very top. Dutch legend Edgar Davids joined the club on a pay-as-you-play deal last week and while the former Juventus man hasn’t played much football in the past two years, he will still be a vital man for the Eagles this season. Strangely, while the Selhurst Park outfit appear to be in a position to sign such established players, they have let one of their seemingly better ones go after Alan Lee joined Huddersfield this week. Lee had already notched two goals this season and the decision to let him join the Terriers certainly seems bizarre. Since their opening day victory over Leicester, George Burley’s men have lost their other two league games and because of that, this fixture against Scunthorpe is even more important.

It’s mixed news on the team news front for the home side although to start with, Nigel Adkins will welcome back Rob Jones, Martyn Woolford and David Mirfin who have all been on the treatment table. However, Garry Thomson will miss out, as will Jim McNulty who is struggling with an ankle problem. The visitors on the other hand will be without forward Wilfried Zala who sits out through suspension. Darren Ambrose is expected to shake off a knock and be passed fit though, while Claude Davis could return after serving a ban.

Crystal Palace may have been boosted with Edgar Davids’ arrival, but we think Scunthorpe will get the points in this one. The Iron will have been given a huge confidence boost following their comprehensive victory over Sheffield Wednesday midweek and we think this can inspire them to victory here. 2-1 Scunthorpe.

Ipswich v Bristol City Preview

Posted on August 27th, 2010 in English Championship

Both of these sides were tipped for very good campaigns through the summer, with managers Roy Keane and Steve Coppell highly respected bosses who have both managed in the top flight. Since then, Coppell has departed, but there’s no doubting that Bristol City will still be harbouring ambitions of a promotion push. Out of the two it’s Ipswich who have enjoyed the better start though, with the Tractor Boys racking up seven points out of their opening three games to put them into 5th position.

Last season could only be described as a disaster for Ipswich and it would be fair to say that Roy Keane is under immense pressure to deliver in this campaign. When he joined the club two years ago, Keane set the target as promotion by the end of his second season although judging by the little progress made last year, that looks a little ambitious at the moment. However, ignoring last season’s failures, Ipswich have made a very good start to this campaign with two wins and a draw to their name. Considering the fact that Middlesbrough and Burnley have been amongst their opponents, an accumulation of seven points is a superb statistic and gives the club an excellent footing already.

There’s no doubting that Bristol City supporters have undergone something of a rollercoaster season already following the departure of Steve Coppell just one league game into the season. His successor Keith Millen has been busy working in the transfer market and another two promising players were brought into the club this week. Brett Pitman opted to turn down Premiership side Blackpool and join City from Bournemouth, while fellow striker Jon Stead also signed for the club this week

Doncaster v Hull Preview

Both of these sides are in completely different states, but nobody quite knows how either will perform this season. Since entering the division, Doncaster have improved year on year and their brand of football has brought many admirers. However, some believe that considering their little financial clout, they may have reached their peak. Hull on the other hand are a completely different issue and even though they’ve only just come down from the Premiership, several off the field problems mean that they are by no means favourites to return to the Promised Land.

A mid-table finish in the last campaign certainly pleased Doncaster’s supporters and they had more to shout about during the summer when the club smashed their record transfer and signed Billy Sharp for

Golf bookies on alert as Ryder Cup wildcard announcements become imminent

A lot of this is bookies boosting their own PR but obviously there is some substance behind it. Any time someone knows the answer before the official announcements are made (Academy Awards, Big Brother etc), then there is always a risk of insider trading.

Montgomerie 'on guard' to ensure no Ryder Cup betting coup

Gambling fears prompts Europe captain to be wary of telling wildcard contenders decision ahead of announcement.

As if Colin Montgomerie hasn't enough to think about in this run-up to making his three picks, the Ryder Cup captain must also be wary of a betting scam staged by "unscrupulous insiders". A source inside the European Tour yesterday revealed the Scot will be "on his guard" to ensure his selections do not leak out before his team announcement here on Sunday night.
Montgomerie has said he plans to speak to all the wild-card contenders before the official unveiling, meaning many would inevitably learn of his decision while bookmakers are still taking bets on who will get the nod. Whether he will now alter this plan after hearing the concerns of the Tournament Players' Committee is unclear. But many betting firms are not prepared to take the chance.
"We don't want to leave ourselves in a position whereby we can have our pants pulled down by potentially unscrupulous insiders chasing a quick buck," said a Ladbrokes spokesman yesterday.
.
.
.

Even the bookmakers who will take bets in the hour between the conclusion of the final qualifying tournament and Montgomerie's announcement will have their finger hovering above the "suspend" button. "We do discuss the risks about insider trading on these type of markets and our traders will watch it very closely," said a Paddy Power spokesman. "If there is any activity that suggests insider knowledge we will close or suspend the market immediately."
It is a similar story at the spread- betting specialists, Sporting Index, who will also be keeping a close eye on who is wagering what. "We will be trading up right until the announcement, but trading conservatively," said their spokesman. "We would be able to tell by the profile of a client's account if anything unusual might be taking place. If, for instance, a client who usually has a smallish average stake size suddenly requests a bet far bigger than usual on the market in question, alarm bells would ring and we would limit that trade."Posted byScott Fergusonat10:31

Diouf shows his quality

 Subscribe in a reader

New Blackburn loan signing Mame Biram Diouf made himself an instant hero by scoring a hat-trick in his side’s Carling Cup second round tie versus Norwich City.

Diouf’s hat-trick came as Blackburn eased into the third round with a 3-1 victory over the Championship new boys, improving their Carling Cup betting odds in the process. The striker, who joined on a season long loan deal from Manchester United, headed his side into the lead on the half hour mark. Diouf scored two more goals in the second half to kill off the tie before Norwich defender Jens Berthal Askou grabbed a 90th minute consolation.

It was the Senegalese striker’s first start for his new club after coming off the bench in Blackburn’s first two Premier League games. He showed exactly why United boss Sir Alex Ferguson rates him so highly as a finisher. His first goal was a typical poacher’s finish – after a long throw was flicked on, the big striker was in the right place to score a stooping header.

It was a similar story with the striker’s second goal – when a Morten Gamst Pedersen shot was spilled by Norwich keeper Declan Rudd, Diouf was there again to stab the ball home from close range. His third came from another header, finishing nicely from five yards, to seal his hat-trick in the 84th minute.

This comfortable victory will give Blackburn confidence going into the third round of the competition. The game could also prove to be Diouf’s springboard to go on and have a prolific season in a Blackburn shirt. And if Rovers get a taste for cup football, they could see their FA Cup odds tumble too.

South Africa steps back in time with online casino ban

In a move which blatantly only serves to protect the incumbent land-based operators rather than act as social policy, the Gauteng Gambling Board has banned all online gambling (defined as casino operations) throughout South Africa.

Note the name of the spokeperson quoted below....

Online gambling banned in South Africa

It is now illegal to gamble using digital products in South Africa, the Gauteng Gambling Board said after a Friday court ruling.

The judgement on the jurisdiction of online gambling transactions in the country was handed down by the North Gauteng High Court on August 20.

This means that online gambling operators in South Africa and players will be in contravention of the law, and according to Business Day, could face a fine of R10-million or 10 years in jail, or both.

According to the Gauteng Gambling Board's head of legal services, Lucky Lukhwareni, online casinos are now liable for prosecution.

How could anyone take a person named Lucky seriously, especially if they worked in gambling regulation??

Other reports (EGR) have stated that the ban refers to all forms of online gambling, but that would be even more ridiculous considering the sports betting licences they have awarded lately. Bans for online casinos had been rumoured earlier in the year so this comes as no great surprise.

Does it protect local residents? Not at all, it's not exactly difficult to find an online casino wherever you are in the world, although transferring South African rand outside of the country is often complicated.  Posted byScott Fergusonat16:43

48 hours can only be a good thing

More moans in today's Racing Post from people complaining about a stack of non-runners this week, naturally blaming the 48hr declarations rule for Flat racing. Of course, it had nothing to do with the fact it pissed down rain overnight or throughout those days!

48hrs gives punters and bookmakers time to do the form properly, rather than just a mad rush on race morning. The Racing Post published historical letters of complaint from when the rule went from 48 to 24hrs a few decades ago - people complained then too!

Also in today's Racing Post, on the same page in fact was a piece about how some trainers have been abusing self-certification (being able to declare a horse unfit themselves rather than paying for a vet) and how the BHA is trying to crack down on it. This is a significant factor which clouds any data about 48hr decs and the number of non-runners.

In my opinion, the biggest problem with 48hr decs is that it doesn't go far enough. It's like having a player draft but not having a salary cap - you must have other rules in place to go with it, namely a withdrawal deadline on race morning. I find it ridiculous that trainers can pull their horses out at any time, particularly because they 'have to inspect the ground'. That's the clerk of the course's job, once the official going is announced, that should be end of story.

The Australian system of a scratching deadline of 8.30am, with later withdrawals only permitted on the basis of change in the official going or a vet's certificate, works perfectly well. Everyone knows a deadline is in place; trainers, bookies, punters, jockeys etc, so markets and bets can be adjusted, you can change your travel plans if the horse you were going to watch is out etc. If owners/trainers want to pull out at that stage, no penalty (other than loss of any entry fee). Make the non-runners list available to all online immediately after the deadline.

I'd even go one step further, stretching declarations to 72hrs for Group I races. The field for the $1m Golden Rose in Sydney this weekend was declared on Tuesday. Plenty of time for exposure, promotion, form study etc. Sure there will be scratchings if the weather turns - but that would happen at 24 and 48hr deadlines as well...

BHA leadership slaughtered in public again

Lydia Hislop sinks the boots further into the beleaguered Nic Coward of the BHA in this excellent piece from The Guardian. Plaudits for the paper too, for either having very astute commenters, or maintaining a very high standard of comments they accept - they all make perfect sense!

Cheers to Mark Davies for pointing this story out.Posted byScott Fergusonat14:49

the Harry Findlay case

I've waited until now to comment since his appeal is currently being heard. For those outside UK racing, this is the case where the biggest punter in the UK, one who trades, nearly every race, every day, was penalised for laying his own horse twice on Betfair. Harry owns (or at least did, until the initial ruling was made) a string of horses with various trainers around the country, and most notably is involved in Denman, the champion jumper.

Nobody will disagree that laying your own horse for profit is a bad thing which needs to be heavily punished. However that was not the case here. Both times Findlay had already backed his horse heavily and was reducing his risk by laying some of his outlay back. In both cases, he still wanted the horse to win overall.

Mark Davies has commented about the case today - here.

There are two camps of thought here - 1. that all betting against your own horse is evil and must be struck out, and 2. that one should only be punished if the owner/punter will reap a net profit from opposing his horse.

Idea #1 sounds simple enough.... but why should it only apply to lay bets on an exchange? If you own one horse is a race and back another, then by default, you can profit if your horse loses. For every back bet, there has to be a lay bet. If you back one horse, by default you are laying the field. If you lay one horse, then by default you are backing the rest of field to beat it. It is not a difficult concept.

But the racing authorities seem to think that corruption can only occur through betting exchanges which is the biggest furphy of all time. Corruption in racing has occurred since the first time they ever ran for a prize. If an owner bet on all the other horses in a race, against his charge, via other bookmakers, in cash or online, and via Betfair, but only BACKED the other runners, would he be penalised? Unless it could be proven the horse was pulled up, then no, he wouldn't - because backing other horses is perfectly acceptable...

It's a stupid rule which only satisfies those who scream about the supposed illegality of exchanges, yet does nothing to prevent the same actions occurring elsewhere, albeit where the perpetrator has to cop higher margins.

Idea #2 - only penalise the owner if they reap a net profit by opposing their own horse. Possible, but tricky. Very difficult to be able to record all the figures if it involves an owner using a bookmaker and an exchange. It could be done, but I can't see bookies being too keen on sharing the info. So it would have to be exchange trading only.

As I hinted on a few posts back, there are people who are allowed to lay their own horses - bookmakers. Under the terms of their licences, if there is anything untoward in those races, the racing authorities can see for themselves what the bookie has done.

So why not look at introducing a special traders' licence for those major punters/owners who bet heavily as a business? Findlay has always been open about the activity on his account, took responsibility for errors made on his account by people who work for him. and never denied the fact that he owned the horses, even though they were all registered in his mother's name. Any additional income for racing will be welcomed and the policing part of it will still be done by Betfair. Such persons going for this type of licence would not have the same privileges as a bookmaker - able to set their own rules, handle other punters' money and advertise their services - so the fee shouldn't be too ambitious - after all, they want people to sign up to this, not hide their activities from them.

It's at least worthy of consideration because all the current rule has done is rob racing of one of its biggest ambassadors over, what is in the grand scheme of things, a rather trivial event.Posted byScott Fergusonat10:56

Ballack out to regain captaincy

 Subscribe in a reader

Michael Ballack returned from missing this summer’s World Cup with an ankle injury to inspire his new side Bayer Leverkusen to a 2-0 opening game victory over Borussia Dortmund.

After missing the World Cup, Ballack will be keen to earn back the German captaincy after being forced to hand it over to Philipp Lahm in his absence. Lahm performed admirably in his new role in South Africa and has made it clear he is desperate to hang on to the armband.

At the weekend, Ballack returned to action and despite tiring a little towards the end, he was instrumental to his side’s dominant display as they outplayed Dortmund to kick off the new Bundesliga campaign with a win. This boosted their chances of winning the title

Team USA defeats Spain in preparation for Turkeys FIBA World Championship

Team USA had to go into overdrive and count on a bit of last-minute luck to barely make it pass Spain in their warm-up match before the FIBA World Championship begins this Saturday. Kevin Durant was a key-player in this game, managing to block shots by both Ricky Rubio and Rudy Fernandez in the final seconds. If you want to talk about suspense and excitement, you should have seen this international affair’s last quarter. It was as dramatic as it gets. Spain managed to lead a couple of times, and the margin was never more then two points. At the end, it was Durant who saved the day for team USA.

Jim Boehiam, the Syracuse University coach, made a last minute change in Team USA tactical scheme and went for his classic Orange System. The 2-3 zone game plan paid off as the North American team was able to clench an 86-85 victory over Spain. Changing to zone-defense instead of going one on one in the last play, really caught the Spanish offense off-guard. This quickly gave the advantage to Team USA despite the fact that it was Spain who held the last possession and had two last chances to shot. Both blocked by Kevin Durant.

The United States had to really push hard in the fourth quarter, as the team rallied after Spain which closed the 3rd quarter 13 points behind. So, yeah, if you do the math, the last quarter was very intense. Team USA had won the Olympic Final back in 2008 against Spain. And you could tell that the Spaniards were hungry for revenge.

And they were very close. Spain took the lead for the first time in the game with 90 seconds to go. Then Rubio, made a nice play in the flank and was able to serve Felipe Reyes for an easy shot to bring up the advantage of the Spaniards 82-80. Kevin Durant, who closed the match with 25 points answered quickly after and managed a three-point play after a double free throw play.

Cheltenham 2011: Champion Hurdle 2011 Preview

Posted by Matt Bisogno on August 24, 2010 · 1 Comment

It may be more than six months away, dear reader, meaning that last year’s Champion Hurdle is closer to now than next year’s… but that doesn’t stop us betting on the Guineas ante-post, and they’re in May! So let’s get the ball rolling for the 2011 Cheltenham Festival with a first look at the Champion Hurdle.

So why would I think I can pick the winner of this ultra-competitive race before the National Hunt season has even begun?! Well, quite simply, most of the clues we need to steal a march on the market are already in situ, as the key clues were provided last season.

Let’s look more deeply into the facts and figures to see how they can help us dig out a few decent bets for the 2011 Champion Hurdle.

The most significant factor in identifying the Champion Hurdle shortlist is course form. And not just course form, but Festival course form. In the last nine years, since the foot and mouth epidemic in 2001, the winners had all either won at the previous year’s Cheltenham Festival (four Champion Hurdle winners); or, placed in the previous year’s Champion Hurdle (four); or, finished in the top four in a Festival Grade 1 race the year before (one).

In fact, this run goes back to 1998 if we include Istabraq’s mighty treble in the race (he won the Sun Alliance at the Festival in 1997, before his hat-trick in the Champion Hurdle).

The full run down is as follows:

Year     Winner         Best Run Season Prior
2010    Binocular    3rd Champion Hurdle (G1)
2009     Punjabi       3rd Champion Hurdle (G1)
2008     Katchit       WON Triumph Hurdle (G1)
2007     Sublimity     4th Supreme Novices Hdle (G1)
2006     Brave Inca     3rd Champion Hurdle (G1)
2005     Hardy Eustace     WON Champion Hurdle (G1)
2004     Hardy Eustace     WON RSA Hurdle (G1)
2003     Rooster Booster WON County Hurdle (G3 Hcap)
2002     Hors La Loi III   2nd Champion Hurdle 2000 (G1)
2001     No Race     Foot and mouth
2000    Istabraq      WON Champion Hurdle (G1)
1999    Istabraq      WON Champion Hurdle (G1)
1998    Istabraq      WON Sun Alliance Hurdle (G1)

There has only been one winner who didn’t win a Graded hurdle or finish in the first three in the previous Champion Hurdle. So, we can narrow our shortlist down quite quickly into probables and possibles. Let’s do that now:

Probables

Champion Hurdle 1-2-3
Binocular
Khyber Kim
Zaynar

Cheltenham 2010 Graded Winners
Menorah
Peddlers Cross
Soldatino
Thousand Stars

Buying a Football jersey; is it a sport memorabilia or investment?

August 24, 2010 by footballfan

Football jersey can well surpass all the other memorabilia and collectibles of teams. It is the most popular team item, a significant and priceless possession for every true fan. Most football supporters own the jersey of their favourite team, especially now, when the jersey bears the name and number of particular players. The authentic jerseys can actually be a great collectible as well.

The football jersey is a piece of clothing that is originally made to provide comfort and protection to the player; it has become though the cornerstone of every sophisticated and serious collection. It is something like a piece of art, decorating walls and offices in a true fan’s home. Some of them create large displays with several authentic jerseys, signed by their favourite players.

If you go online, you will find thousands of jerseys for sale; at eBay or Amazon, you can find some authentic shirts in high prices. Some of the fans sell jerseys signed by the football players, increasing the price dramatically. You can find a football jersey at 350$ or even more, as many fans invest in football apparel and create some sort of small business online, trading and selling jerseys or full kits. If you are among those football fans that want to have authentic and rare jerseys, you definitely need to check online. There are numerous rare items out there for sale, at different prices, for every budget and pocket.

Some of the very first jerseys used in football matches are quite pricey; a known collector bought recently a football jersey from the 70s, belonging to a player of the national team of Brazil; he spent more than 20000$ for that, but it is a unique item and belongs to the player that scored the winning goal at the final match of World Championship. If you can find a rare jersey signed by a player you can consider it to be an investment; you cannot know the exact value of this jersey twenty – or more – years from now.

If you are not up to this task, but you are mostly looking for something comfortable and easy to wear, then you should definitely consider checking the simple jerseys that have hit the shelves; you can find a football jersey that belongs to European team, such as Manchester United or Barcelona, or an American or South American team. The dot com boom made the purchase of jerseys and apparel really easy. You can find the jerseys that bear the name of a player such as Beckham, for instance, in good prices. If you don’t want to spend huge money, you can always opt for a replica. IT might not be top quality, but it will last for a while and is easily replaceable. Some fans tend to collect jerseys of their favourite players, buying a football jersey from every team they play for; in the case of Beckham you can find one from M.United, Real Madrid and now Milan.

Whether you are a big fan or a simple collector, buying jerseys is a great way to keep the memorable moments of your team always alive and vivid. It’s also a nice way to connect with the club and show that you belong to the group of fans that support a team religiously.

Murray Bid For US Open Title

Named as fourth seed in this years US Open, Andy Murray is going to have his work cut out for him if he wants to seriously challenge for the title. The 23-year-old, who was beaten by Roger Federer in last year’s final at Flushing Meadows, goes into the tournament after a terrific Toronto Masters where he retained the title.

But out to beat them all is No.1 seed Rafael Nadal who looks set to win the only Grand Slam title to have eluded him. Novak Djokovic is seeded third, with Sweden’s Robin Soderling ranked fifth while US hopes are resting on ninth seed Andy Roddick, while John Isner, Mardy Fish and Sam Querrey are also seeded.

The top seeds for the Open are: 1 Rafael Nadal, 2 Roger Federer, 3 Novak Djokovic, 4 Andy Murray, 5 Robin Soderling, 6 Nikolay Davydenko, 7 Tomas Berdych, 8 Fernando Verdasco, 9 Andy Roddick, 10 David Ferrer, 11 Marin Cilic, 12 Mikhail Youzhny, 13 Jurgen Melzer, 14 Nicolas Almagro, 15 Ivan Ljubicic, 16 Marcos Baghdatis, 17 Gael Monfils, 18 John Isner, 19 Mardy Fish and 20 Sam Querrey.

Nadal may be gunning for the title but the bookies certainly don’t see it that way with favourite Federer nearly odds on to win it! The US Open begins in Flushing Meadows, New York on August 30th 2010.

Bookies Already Backing X-Factor Winner

It may have only started back last Saturday but already the bookies are having a field day with some of the few contestants that we’ve seen being hotly tipped to win the show outright. I think it’s a bit premature given that there are weeks to go and often those that perform well in auditions tend to flounder as the programme goes on…anyone remember Daniel from last year????

That said, one or two really did stand out but that could also have been because the ‘talent’ they were up against was so horrific that my ears are still bleeding which of course makes them look like the next Whitney or Celine when in fact they could be just quite good – it’s all relative people!

So who are the bookies, specifically Paddy Power, favouring at this very early stage….

Gamu Nhengu (sang her own version of Walking on Sunshine) is tipping the polls at 9/1
Katie Waissel (thinks she’s Madonna and wants to be love child of Etta James and Freddie Mercury!!!) is in second place at 16/1
Lynn Frances O’Neil (Scottish girl with fabulous voice) is in third on 25/1

Of course these odds will change and more will get added as each show progresses but they’re not bad odds is you really fancy one of them win!

English Premiere League – Manchester ties game with Fulham

by Stephen Lars on Aug.24, 2010, under Soccer

The guys over at Manchester United might end up regretting the 2 points they speared on this Sundays English Premiere League game. Alex Ferguson, who has been around the football world long enough, knows very well that at the end, those two silly points, as he said, might comeback and chase them much.

Ferguson kept his calmness throughout the post-game interview. But you could see in his face that he was a bit infuriated by what had just happened. Lets not forget whom we are talking about here, this is no newbie coach, Ferguson has been the head coach of Manchester United since 1986, and is one of the most successful professional coaches in the world.

Now, lets take a look at the situation in this game. Manchester United was clearly a more dominant team, but it seemed as if they were unable to really bring in the plays that would secure their advantage. For starters, it was Fulham’s own defender who scored the first goal. Brede Hangeland, the Norwegian defender, had given united an 84 minute long advantage when unintentionally he deflected a ball into his own net.

Things were fine up to that point, but it was Luis Carlos Almeida da Cunha, better known in the football-betting world as Nani, who missed a penalty kick late in the game. This would have meant securing a 3-1 advantage for Mancehster United with only 10 minutes remaining in the game.

And yet soccer is a beautiful game, and it usually gives players a chance to amend their errors. But it was not Nanni, the Portuguese winger, who came up with a glorious redemption goal, but rather the Norwegian defender Hangeland who made up for his early own goal. At the last minute, from a corner kick shot, Hangeland was able to clear himself from two Manchester United defenders and complete a header to tie the game.

Paul Scholes, the 35 year-old veteran scored the second goal for Manchester United from a 23 meter distance. Scholes is one of those few one-club-men, and has been playing for Manchester United since 1994. It is good to see that despite the years he is still bringing in good things from the midfield.

Simon Davies from Fulham made it 2-1 early in the second half. Bobby Zamora made a great solo play and open up a shooting chance that Davies completed vigorously. That gave Fulham the chance to get back in the game. As reported it was Hangeland who concluded the game with his header to make it 2-2.

Chelsea keeps its winning streak

On the other hand, two days earlier, it was defending Premiere League champions, Chelsea, who made the difference over in the football championship. They guys from Chelsea were able to complete a 6-0 win over at Wigan and now stand as the only team with a perfect record after two official games. That gives Chelsea six points on the general standings, and after their last minute tie, now Manchester United holds 4 points and ties in second with other four teams.

NEW! Aces and Eights Blackjack Strategy

lesson about aces and eights blackjack strategy atgambling teachers
Aces and Eights Blackjack
by Frank Scoblete

This lesson is about Aces and Eights and strategic Blackjack.
There is one and only one way to play certain hands in the game ofblackjack for the basic strategy player.  Quick refresher:Basic strategy is the computer-derived rules for the playing of everyplayer hand against every possible dealer upcard.

In this lesson, several example hands and strategies about how to playaces and eights blackjack together or as pairs of 8s or aces aredetailed.
For example, take a hand of 16. No matter how you slice it, a hand of16 is a rotten hand. Hit it and you will bust over 60 percent of thetime; stand and the dealer will have to bust. You will be a big loserwhen you stand as well, around 70 percent of the time.
But a 16 composed of two 8s is an entirely different matter. In fact, very few players even think of two 8s as a 16; they merely think of itas an opportunity to split. It is an absolute truism in blackjack thatevery time you see those two 8s, you split them. Yes, you split themagainst aces and 10s and deuces and 3s. You split them against whateverthat dealer shows. That is a clear, concise, precise and ironclad rule!No exceptions. No debates.

Aces and Eightsblackjack: eight pairs strategy
Does this mean that a pair of 8s is a winning hand? Against some dealerupcards it is -- specifically 2 through 7, assuming you can doubleafter splits. You will win more money by splitting than you will bystanding or hitting.
But a pair of 8s is a losing hand against 8 through ace. So why do yousplit? Because you actually lose less money by splitting than you do bystanding or hitting. A starting hand of 8 is a stronger starting handthan 16. When you split, you give yourself a starting blackjack hand of8. Again, a starting hand of 8 against 8s through aces is a loser butit loses less.

Aces and Eightsblackjack: aces pairs strategy
It is also true that you always split aces against every dealer upcardand for essentially the same reasons. You will win more or lose lesswhen you do so.
A 2 or 12 composed of two aces is not a very strong hand to hit. But asingle ace is a very powerful card. It can be paired with a tenapproximately 32 percent of the time for a 21 depending on the dealerupcard and number of decks in play. It can be paired with a 9approximately eight percent of time for a total of 20 and it can bepaired with an 8 approximately eight percent of the time for a total of19. That means approximately 48 percent of the time; you have a strongpossibility of a winning hand, as the average winning hand in blackjackis approximately an 18.8. Splitting a pair of aces is a winning move inmost cases.

Of course, even though the rule for aces and eights blackjack isironclad, the results in the short term can be disheartening. Splityour 8s against a dealer upcard of ten and get a ten on each half ofthe split. If the dealer flips over a 20, you have just lost two betsinstead of one. Ugh! Some players, realizing that possibility, hesitateto split those 8s against a ten. Simple blackjack logic comes to youraid as those two tens land, bing! bong! on our split 8s. If the dealerhas a ten up, and you have two tens, the likelihood of another ten inthe hole is much less than it would be had you received any other cardson the split.
It is no different with those two aces. Split and get a two on one aceand a three on the other ace. Then look across the table at that big,fat dealer ten. You have four non-tens sitting right in front of you. It’s an air-gulping moment for sure as the dealer flipped over his holecard to reveal another big, fat 10--or even a 7, 8, or 9.
Okay, the rule is ironclad. Split aces and eights, period. But thedestiny of the hand after the split is not engraved in stone. You winsome; you lose some. However, in the long run--that glorious longrun--you will win more money or lose less money, guaranteed! if youfollow the rule.
That’s a fact. There’s no two sides to the story of splitting aces andeights.

American football emerged from the European game of Rugby in 1879. Walter Camp, a player and coach of Yale University, is recognized as “The Father Of American Football” as the early rules of the game was instituted by him. However, previous to that, the students of Princeton were already playing a game called “Ballown”. It was about fisting the ball and then using their feet to advance the ball past their opponents. There were no hard and fast rules that applied and could be stated as the easiest form of football at it’s early times. However, the physical aspect of the game was immense and often it turned violent.

At Harvard too, a football-type game was being played on the first Monday of the school year. This game was so much physical that the day it was played was often mentioned as “Bloody Monday”. The year 1865 was very important for American Football. The Civil War had ended and football started gaining popularity in the colleges. It was in this year that some basic rules for the game were established and the game got its patent for the first time. Thus on 6th November, 1869 the first inter-collegiate football was played between Rutgers and Princeton where Rutgers won by a score of six goals to four.

In 1873, the Intercollegiate Football Association was formed by the representatives of Columbia, Rutgers, Princeton, and Yale. Till then, the increasingly popular game was being played with many different rules. The association brought into effect the first set of rules of intercollegiate football which allowed fifteen players in each team. However, it was Walter Camp, a coach at Yale, who began the final process of evolution from rugby like game to what we know today as the American Football. The number of players was reduced to eleven and the standard size of the field was set to hundred and ten yards. A little later downs were introduced and tackling below the belt was legalized.

However, the violent physical challenge that the game demanded, caused many serious injuries and deaths in the next few years. As a result, though still gaining popularity, football was banned in many colleges. In 1905, under a directive from President Theodore Roosevelt, Yale, Harvard and Princeton setup a couple of meetings between schools and formed a seven member Rules Committee which was later came to be known as National Collegiate Athletic Association, or the NCAA.

American Football has now become a multi-billion dollar industry. With the advent of cable television, the game have crossed the boundaries of America and spread its wings all over the world. Dozens of games both collegiate ad professional are aired almost every Friday and Saturday afternoons and Sunday and Monday nights during the football season. The super Bowl, that decides the national champion, has become the most watched sporting event of all times. Plenty of merchandise and football products have taken the markets by storm. Quite a number of innovative products are often offered as token gifts and memorabilia. Even free American Football ecards can be found over the net . Blackpool suffer early ups and downs

 Subscribe in a reader

The first two games of the season have taught Blackpool fans what the Premier League is all about – highs and lows.

After their unexpected 4-0 win over Wigan on the opening day, they themselves were the victims of a thrashing at the hands of Arsenal who managed six without reply.

Their second result was more widely predicted than the first, but taken together the two games mean it’s no easier to predict just how Blackpool will get on this season.

True, manager Ian Holloway would have seen any points picked up at the Emirates as a bonus, but the comprehensive manner of the defeat raised question marks.

However, Wigan are the kind of team they need to beat if they want to stay in the division and they clearly have what it takes to get one over on their fellow strugglers.

There are a lot of poor teams around this season – West Ham look unlikely to set the world alight, while a number of other teams will struggle. So if Blackpool can keep up the kind of form that saw them tonk Wigan, and don’t mind taking the occasional tonking themselves, they could hang on for a second season. You can follow their season with Bets Player.

However, they will still face a tough task in staying up and they would do well to learn from what happened with Hull City. They spent far too heavily in an attempt to remain in the Premier League and although they managed to stay up first time around, their eventual relegation plunged them into a financial crisis.

Blackpool then should concentrate on ensuring that if they do go down, they are able to make a swift return to the top flight.

A referee supervises the game. The decisions taken by him are final. A single match is divided into two halves of forty-five minutes each. One player tries to prevent the ball from reaching the goal post. He is called the goalkeeper. At the end of the game, the team with the highest number of goals wins. However, if both the teams score the same number of goals then it is a draw. To resolve a draw, the duration of the game is increased. Middlesbrough v Sheffield United Preview

This game will focus more on visitors Sheffield United after the Blades decided to part company with Kevin Blackwell last weekend. Gary Speed has since been handed the reins and his first task will probably be the hardest he could have asked for. Middlesbrough have been the divisions big spenders and after being labelled as clear favourites for promotion, the pressure is on Gordon Strachan to deliver.

Despite their spending, Boro’s campaign hasn’t exactly got off to the best of starts and they’ve just picked up the one point so far this term. Following an unexpected 3-1 defeat to Ipswich on the opening day of the season, Strachan’s men responded by beating Chesterfield in the Cup. Their latest result was a goalless draw at Leicester and with that, it appears as though Strachan’s new signings still haven’t quite clicked. Still, two games into a season is by no means enough time to judge and you’d have to imagine that once Boro’s new look side have gelled, they’ll certainly be a force to be reckoned with.

Sheffield United became the first side in the division to dispense with their manager and on the whole, it appears to have been greeted with approval from the Bramall Lane faithful. A 3-0 home defeat to QPR was deemed not good enough by United’s board of directors and with that, Kevin Blackwell was given his marching orders. Some fans will be questioning why Blackwell was sacked so early in the season, as opposed to at the end of the previous campaign. Still, the Blades have moved on and replacing Blackwell is one of his coaching staff

Bristol City v Barnsley Preview

It would be fair to say that both of these clubs are still trying to find their feet after the opening games of the season. Great things were expected of Bristol City after a productive summer but following Steve Coppell’s departure just two games into the campaign, it now remains to be seen how the Robins will size up. Barnsley on the other hand are always tipped as relegation favourites and a 4-0 opening day defeat did nothing to dispel those predictions. However, a victory over Crystal Palace in their last outing means the Tykes now have points on the board and just like City, the club’s supporters are unsure of what to expect.

Bristol City’s fans may feel as though they are in limbo and all of that pre-season optimism has now evaporated. In Steve Coppell they had arguably the best manager in the league and when the former Reading supremo brought the likes of David James, Nicky Hunt and Damion Stewart into the club, City looked a genuine force for promotion. However, just two games into the season and Coppell quit

Blackjack: Profits When Card Counting

Card counting blackjack strategies at Learn to Play Blackjackprogram
Blackjack: Enhancing Profits When Card Counting
by Henry Tamburin

This lesson begins with a question.
“I am using a card counting system to play blackjack. Although I’mwinning more then losing, I’d like to increase my profits. What’s thebest way to go about this?”

One obvious way that card counting can increase profits is just betmore money.
But that is ill advised unless you also increase your bankroll.
Ifyou do not do the latter you will increase your risk of going broke inthe short term. This is the classic “Risk of Ruin” that has in factruined many card counters. Therefore, increasing your bet sizewithout increasing your bankroll is not one of the ways I wouldrecommend to enhance profits.
There is a way, however, to increase your bets without any increase inrisk.
That’sto get a trusting partner who would be willing to pool his bankrollwith yours and split the profits or losses. This teamworkeffortcan be beneficial to all partners.

The depth of thepenetration or the percentage of cards dealt prior to the shuffle isanother important factor that can increase profit.
For example, a6-deck game in which 75% of the cards are dealt before the dealerreshuffles is much more profitable with card counting compared to onein which only 50% of the cards are dealt.
The fact is that the latter example (50%) is not really worth acounter’s time.
In some casinos, dealers have some leeway in where they place the cutcard and hence the penetration.
Scoutaround for dealers in a casino to see which ones are dealing the mostcards and that is the blackjack table you should be playing.
Youcan also subscribe to publications that maintain current databases ofplaying rules including penetration for blackjack games across thecountry.
Double deck games are often better for card counting.Essentially a game with fewer decks has greater fluctuations in deckcompositions allowing more opportunities to have a favorable advantageand increase bets.
For example, in a single deck game the counterhas the edge nearly 40% of the time, whereas in an 8-deck game it dropsto about 20%.

You can also enhance profits by notstaying when counting goes negative. One way to accomplishthis isto back count games then jump in and play when the count goes positiveand leave when the count goes negative. This way you are only makingbets when you have the edge.
Unfortunately, most casinos aresensitive to players who jump in and out of games because theyunderstand that back counting is a tool used to enhance profits. Therefore, they will post “No-Mid Shoe Entry” signs or limit a playerto betting only the table minimum when entering a game in the middle ofthe shoe.
But this is not a universal policy and there are stillplenty of casinos online and off that allows players to enter in themiddle of the shoe and thus back counting can be used carefully toenhance profits.

Another way to enhance profits is to put on a good “act” that willallow you longevity when you play blackjack.
Ifyou get barred from playing blackjack because of your skills, yourprofit potential will essentially be zero. Therefore, it is importantyou not give yourself away.
One of the beauties of the simplecounting system, Speed Count that I teach is that it behaves muchdifferently than traditional counting systems with built in camouflageresulting in Speed Counters being able to play longer and win more.

Lastly,I would suggest you do the following. Get yourself a blackjack softwareprogram that will test your card counting skills. I say this because acounter’s edge is very small and a few errors in keeping the countcould easily wipe out their edge.

CardCounting is followed by Blackjack Shufflers

Things You Need to Know to Find Reputable Online Casinos

Finding reputable online casinos is not easy. There are so many Internet casinos today and almost all of them have very professional and engaging websites. The biggest question now is how you can differentiate a rouge casino from the reputable ones. If you are playing casino games on the Internet for a long time, then choosing a reputable site will not be a problem. However, if you want to experience online casino gaming for the first time, learning how to identify a reputable casino is important. So, here are the factors you need to consider so you can properly choose reputable online casinos.

Check if the Casino Is Licensed
Reputable online casinos have licenses issued by respectable international gaming regulatory bodies. Normally, top notch casinos are licensed in Antigua, Gibraltar, Kahnawake, Australia, the Netherlands, Malta and United Kingdom. You can easily spot the license of an online casino because it would be prominently displayed at its home page. Always avoid an Internet casino that cannot show any license certification on its website.

Check the Software Provider of the Casino
Reputable online casinos are partnering with respected online gaming software providers in order ensure fair play. Some of the top casino software providers are MicroGaming, Playtech, RTG, or Cryptologic. The quality of the gaming software of reputable online casinos ensures that you will not be cheated during online play. Online casino software uses random number generators and would be similar to the quality of the systems used in real casinos.

Make Sure the Casino is Properly Audited
There are online gaming auditors that ensure fair play within the Internet casino industry. Two of the top auditors today are eCOGRA and Technical Systems Testing. Reputable online casinos will regularly publish the audit reports of these agencies. The audit ensures that the casinos are really paying their winning customers. It can also detect unsavory practices such as not releasing payout on time or refusal to honor the cleared bonuses of players. The regulatory bodies can issue reports on rouge casinos so make sure to read such reports.

Existence of 24 Hours Customer Service
It would be best if you can sign up with online casinos that have 24/7 customer services and support. The casino should have an always ready customer chat support where you can immediately ask assistance from a live person. It should also have a reliable email support as well as toll free numbers for international players. If you want to test the quality of customer service of a casino, then simply chat with its live customer service representative.

You should consider the response time as well as the professionalism of the customer service. These are the top things you need to consider in order to find reputable online casinos. You have to carefully scrutinize each online casino before you join. It is also best if you can read casino reviews and participate in online forums with discussions on Internet gambling. By participating in forums, you can learn from fellow players which casinos are reputable.

You will only find reputable online casinos at the Casino Gamblers Guide online casino guide. Why not visit for more online gambling advice and bonus offers.
